Once Upon A Time...

An Icon

One of the most iconic gathering spots in Sestri Levante has a rich history waiting to be discovered.

The Beginnings

In the 1800s, the site where Capocotta now stands was a storage space for equipment used by local fishermen. They would gather here to mend their nets and talk late into the night, eating dry bread with anchovies and drinking Aleatico dell'Elba, a red wine. There were no glasses; instead, they used the pirone (ü pirun), a Spanish-origin glass flask with a long, thin spout. They drank “Catalan-style”, passing it from hand to hand without touching it to their lips—ensuring not a single drop was wasted. It was a place "for sailors only", a phrase that still stands on one of the walls today, as women were not allowed to enter.

Over time, the storage space became a popular gathering spot, eventually evolving into a full-fledged venue.

The Tradition Lives On

This ability to evolve while preserving the best of its past lives continues to this day. Since 2016, under the management of Alberto and Stefano, Capocotta has embraced a new dimension—defined by refined cuisine, a carefully curated wine selection, and exceptional expertise in cocktail crafting.

The most recent transformation has revived a unique connection to its historic Spanish influences: the introduction of a rich and sophisticated selection of tapas. This innovation disrupts the traditional order of courses, inviting guests to dine with a renewed spirit of sharing and conviviality.
